From its early events, to its modernized competitions, the Olympics have been an immense element in each country and the world. The Modern Olympics have been and are one of the most exciting sporting events to see because the national history involving the Olympics, and especially because the involvement of a favored winter sport, hockey. First, The Modern Olympics include an immense amount of history dating back almost 1,500 years ago. After Roman Emperor Theodosius I banned the games from being held Baron Pierre de Coubertin was inspired to create the IOC, Or International Olympic Committee, thus beginning the Modern Olympics Association. The IOC decided that 280 participants from 13 different nations (History.com). Also, the first Modern Olympics were held in a historical area. This historical area is known as Athens, which is located on the southern peninsula of Greece. (Nostos.com). In addition, the Modern Olympics adopted the ancient Olympic events. This includes track and field, swimming, gymnastics, cycling, wrestling, weightlifting, fencing, shooting, and tennis. (History.com). As you can see, the Modern Olympics historical background constructs a well balanced and fun athletic event. Lastly, hockey is a very appealing event in the Modern day Olympics because of the various teams participating and of course, America, one of the leading forces in this event. For example, the 3 leading powers in this event are Canada, United States, and Finland. There are many other countries participating, but these teams are the powerhouses of International Hockey (ESPN.com). Also, the United States Team is very fascinating to watch. The team is so interesting to watch because of the players that are members of this team. Three outstanding members include Chris Drury, Brian Raflaski, and James Langenburunner because of their outstanding effort on and off the rink. (USA.Hockey.org). USA has a great chance to be one of the three countries awarded with a top medal. This is very likely because in the past year they came in a close second following Canada. (ESPN.com). Consequently, hockey in the modern day Olympics is very alluring to the current Olympic viewers. In conclusion, current Olympics include exhilarating athletic events because the nationwide history linking to the Olympics, and especially because the participation of a preferred winter sport, hockey. Present Olympics have had a great role in the history of many countries viewing of athletic events.
